Cross Country for Cancer

Cross Country for Cancer (CCFC), is a transcontinental charity bicycle ride across the United States from San Francisco, California to Baltimore, Maryland, aimed at raising awareness and funds for cancer research. The six riders are riding from 3 July to 15 August, aiming to cover just under 4000 miles in 40 days. Their website is regularly posted with blogs detailing their progress, as well as having a GPS tracking system enabled; the blog also allows readers to make donations.

The cause

The ride aims to raise $25,000 for the NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, at Johns Hopkins University. Funds raised will go directly towards clinical trials being conducted at the SKCCC.

The route

CCFC is traveling east from San Francisco to Baltimore, following the Adventure Cycling Association's Western Express Route until Pueblo, Colorado, and then join the TransAmerica Trail, following their own route from Chester, Illinois until they reach Baltimore. The team will make a stop in Granville, Ohio, where team member John lives, before cutting through Pennsylvania and into Maryland. In all, the team's route traverses 12 US states.
